 Abstract:  The collection consists of typewritten copies of speeches given by high school students in the Elks Regional (Great Lakes) Oratorical Contest, 1951-1973. Also included are a 1954 budget report and a blank contest questionnaire, ca. 1970. The speeches treat various themes in the history of African Americans in the United States.

 Abstract:  Ursula J. Honore was an American History instructor at the Cleveland Board of Education's Adult Education Center on Stearns Road in Cleveland, Ohio, in the mid-1970s. One of her class projects involved written reports of student interviews of family members, many of whom were African Americans who were born in the South. The collection consists of brief family histories written by students in Honore's American History class.

3Title:  Annetta Jefferson Papers

 Dates:  1970-1972 
 Abstract:  Annetta Jefferson narrated the two WVIZ television series, "The History of Black Americans", and "Reflections in Black" and prepared the teachers' guides which accompanied the programs. Jefferson taught English and drama at Glenville High School, Cleveland, Ohio, then became an education instructor at John Carroll University and a writer for the Educational Research Council of America. The collection consists of teaching guides and scripts for "The History of Black Americans," a WVIZ-TV series which aired in 1970, and "Reflections in Black" which aired on WVIZ-TV several years later. These programs highlighted the history of the black experience in America and the contributions of black authors to American literature.

 Abstract:  Kenyon Stevenson was a Cleveland, Ohio, sales manager and advertising executive and an avid genealogist who compiled family records and wrote genealogies. The collection consists of genealogical correspondence; compiled genealogies; photocopies of deeds, indentures and wills; abstracts and transcripts of vital records, deeds, indentures, letters of reference, church parish records, and wills; books, pamphlets, and articles; newspaper clippings;lineage records; census records; tax lists; transcribed narratives; biographies; state and county histories; land grant and petition lists; tombstone transcriptions; militia and muster rolls; Quaker and Baptist records; lawsuits and court case transcripts; and slave vital records and names in various documents.
